From the Madrid Conference to the Kerry Initiative

Jonathan Heuberger works as German Attorney and provides legal advice in a variety of public international law and international criminal law projects. Raised in Frankfurt am Main, since 2013 he resides in Tel Aviv.

During his university education he was a scholar of the Gerhard C. Starck Foundation and the McKinsey Capstone Program.  After studying and working in London, Cologne, Berlin and Tel Aviv, in 2015 he joined the Center for Applied Negotiations at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) in Tel Aviv under the leadership of Adv. Gilead Sher, head of Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations in Camp David and Taba in 2000-2001. At the INSS, Jonathan Heuberger researches and publishes on legal questions arising in the Middle East conflict, the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court for the Situation in Palestine, and the legal status of Gaza.

 

 

Jonathan Heuberger is the author of the study “From the Madrid Conference to the Kerry Initiative – An Insight into the Israeli-Palestinian peace process” which was published in 2016 by Optimedien Publishing House in Goettingen. It is regarded as one of the few publications which covers the complete scope Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts.

 

As speaker, he can lecture on the following topics: historical context and core issues of the conflict, legal considerations and current developments in the Israeli-Palestinian Peace Process. 

In June 2017, Heuberger was heard as an independent expert by the Committe for Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid of the German Bundestag (Parliament), speaking about "The human rights situation in Israel and the Palestinian  Territories". Watch his opening statement in German:
